Onyx Coffee Bar is serious about coffee. Serving delicious coffee by the carafe and offering whole bean by the gram from the finest roasters in the world. Our menu rotates weekly with roasters that we work with and coffee that we are really excited about. 

 

fEATURE YOUR COFFEE

Our tasting bar is a great tool to use for our own quality control purposes, but also provides roasters old and new with the opportunity to feature their coffees and gain more feedback. This is our feature program.

 

STEP 1: SAMPLE

Send us a few samples of your most exciting coffees. We will take them to our lab, cup, and provide feedback. If we love it, Kevin will then place a wholesale order with you to get your coffee on our shelves. 


STEP 2: FEATURE

Once we receive your coffees we will set them up on our shelves and serve by the cup! Each coffee is hand poured with a v60 and hario kettle set up. Our menu offers our customers info on the roaster, where the coffee is from, and tasting notes. 


STEP 3: FEEDBACK

Every Tuesday, Kevin will sit down, gather his notes, and provide you with detailed feedback on how your coffees sold, customer favorites, and his own notes on the coffees.

"Perhaps the strongest model for buying coffee ethically and sustainably is the direct trade/relationship model. A typical approach by roasting companies is to send a company representative to a farm to visit the producers, and negotiate a price for their coffee (usually well above market price). A relationship is created, and ideally, the roaster purchases from this farm year after year. Some roasters do this very well, and we have great respect for those who follow a transparent and consistent model. 

But even with the best and most transparent direct trade models, there remains a disconnect between producers and end consumers – those who enjoy drinking their coffee. After all, it is typically one or two employees of a roasting company who get to travel to origin. And the stories of their travels only go so far. 

Sweet Bloom’s direct trade model turns the tables on who visits whom. 

We bring representatives of the farms we buy from to Sweet Bloom's roasting facility. We host “Connect with the Producer” events for our wholesale and retail customers and learn about the farms and surrounding communities from the producers themselves. The representatives have the opportunity to visit Sweet Bloom’s local accounts and experience first-hand how their coffee is being served and enjoyed. Our vision is to create tangible relationships with producers that extend well beyond "origin trips."
